Trump Appoints Cryptocurrency Supporter Stephen Milan as Chairman of the Economic Advisory Council

By Mini MaNewcomer0 rep· 12/23/2024

President-elect Trump recently announced the appointment of former Treasury Department official Stephen Miran as the Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers (CEA). Miran's supportive stance in the cryptocurrency field and his experience in economic policy have made this appointment highly anticipated.

Key Points

  • Stephen Miran has been appointed as the Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers.

  • Miran served as a Treasury Department official during Trump's first term and is currently an economist at Hudson Bay Capital Management.

  • Miran advocates for reforming U.S. cryptocurrency regulations to foster innovation.

Miran's appointment is seen as a significant step by the Trump administration in the cryptocurrency field. As the Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers, Miran will be responsible for providing economic policy advice to the President, evaluating the effectiveness of federal policies, analyzing economic trends, and proposing recommendations to promote economic growth and stability.

Miran's stance on cryptocurrency has drawn widespread attention. He stated in a Blockworks podcast that U.S. cryptocurrency regulations need reform to allow innovation to flourish. He also criticized Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, arguing that his call for Congress to pass a stimulus bill in October 2020 was politically and economically wrong.

Trump stated on social media that Miran will work with the economic team to drive economic prosperity for all Americans. Miran's appointment aligns with Trump's goal of making the U.S. the "global cryptocurrency capital."

Miran's Cryptocurrency Stance

Miran's support in the cryptocurrency field has garnered him widespread backing, especially from MicroStrategy CEO Michael Saylor. In a recent interview, he emphasized that clear regulations are crucial for the U.S. to maintain competitiveness in the digital economy.

Miran's appointment is one of a series of cryptocurrency-supportive moves by the Trump administration. Trump also appointed Paul Atkins as the Chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission, who served as a commissioner during the George W. Bush administration.

Additionally, Trump appointed former congressional candidate Bo Hines as the Executive Director of the Presidential Advisory Council on Digital Assets. Although Hines lacks a background in cryptocurrency, he will work closely with the incoming "crypto czar" David Sacks to advance the government's cryptocurrency agenda.

Impact on the Crypto Market

Miran's appointment is seen as a positive signal for the crypto market. As the Trump administration's cryptocurrency policies become clearer, market sentiment is beginning to warm. Bitcoin and Ethereum saw slight increases following the announcement, and analysts predict that Miran's leadership and Trump's policies could pave the way for mainstream adoption.

Although Bitcoin is currently on the verge of a breakout, analysts are waiting for some major policy changes to see a market recovery. Noted crypto analyst Ali Martinez pointed out that Bitcoin's key support range is between $97,041 and $93,806, and if this area is breached, a sharp decline could occur.
