Bitcoin ETFs set a record for positive inflows on the last day of 2024

By Mini MaNewcomer0 rep· 1/1/2025

On the last day of 2024, Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) experienced positive inflows, marking a resurgence of investor confidence in this financial product. According to SoSoValue data, on January 1, the total net inflow of Bitcoin ETFs reached $5.32 million.

Key Points

  • Fidelity's Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC) led with nearly $37 million in inflows.

  • BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT) had a flat year-end performance, with an outflow of $23.4 million.

  • ARK 21Shares Bitcoin ETF (ARKB) and Grayscale Bitcoin Trust ETF (GBTC) also saw outflows of $11.21 million and $9.63 million, respectively.

In 2024, Bitcoin ETFs performed brilliantly, setting multiple records and attracting significant investor attention. Fidelity's Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC) was particularly outstanding at the end of the year, with inflows nearing $37 million, demonstrating strong investor confidence. The fund's total assets are close to $20 billion, currently at $18.9 billion.

In contrast, BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT) had a somewhat lackluster year-end performance, with an outflow of $23.4 million. Nevertheless, the product's total assets remain high at $51.7 billion, still a leader in the market.

Other ETF Performances

  • ARK 21Shares Bitcoin ETF (ARKB) and Grayscale Bitcoin Trust ETF (GBTC) also couldn't escape outflows, with $11.21 million and $9.63 million, respectively.

  • Ethereum ETFs performed relatively well on the last day of 2024, recording nearly $36 million in net inflows.

  • Fidelity Ethereum Fund (FETH) had inflows of $31.77 million on December 31, far surpassing other competing products.

Although Ethereum ETFs saw growth in inflows, they still pale in comparison to Bitcoin ETFs. Ethereum's performance was also less than satisfactory, with the ETH/BTC trading pair down 33% in 2024, and having declined for three consecutive years since 2022, with a cumulative drop of 55%.

Market Outlook

The success of Bitcoin ETFs not only reflects investor confidence in the cryptocurrency market but may also pave the way for the launch of other similar financial products. As the market continues to develop, regulators are closely monitoring this trend. The performance of Bitcoin ETFs may influence the launch of other cryptocurrency ETFs such as Solana and XRP.

Overall, the positive inflows on the last day of 2024 have laid a solid foundation for the future development of Bitcoin ETFs, with investor confidence in this market gradually recovering.
